FULFILMENT OF PREDICTIONS
Another rule for prophets is found in Deuteronomy: “If thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? when a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it pre-sumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.” Chapter 18:21-22. Then, in the case of a true prophet, the opposite is understood,-his predictions must each come to pass when the time arrives for their fulfilment. SGL 33.2
The Lord calls attention to the accurate fulfilment of prophecy as a proof that the word was spoken by Him: “I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of My mouth, and I showed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass.... I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I showed it thee; lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them.” Isaiah 48:3-5.
