The Church: Its Organization, Order and Discipline
03 THE HEAD AND THE BODY
“Let no man beguile you of your reward.... Vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.” Colossians 2:18, 19. COOD 17.1
The body referred to in the text is the church of Christ, of which he is the head. In this same epistle the apostle says: “Let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.” Colossians 3:15. In addressing the Romans he said: “For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.” Romans 12:4, 5. In the Ephesian letter he says: “And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.” Ephesians 1:22, 23. COOD 17.2
